YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT!!
Yes. we have heard this phrase before; but how often do you see it? Nyberg’s taste and technique freshly and ravishly emphasizes humour and sarcasm. She often likes to find human contradictions in society, often bringing up why and what our means are to consume. This flashy collection describes expressive fashion models with farm animals emphasizing a contrast the human mind never often likes to make. As the subjects both declare a quirky innocence there is a similarity and relationship in the expressions and body language. By comparing the female model symbolizing into society either the idea of femininty, vulnerbility, sexuality, beauty, health, malnutrition, westernization, female perfection and in honesty being the temptation towards consumption. Where as the animal we admire and adore, and deny the reality how they are used for our leather shoes, purses, coaches, chairs, furs, clothing and for dinner devour for food without often any awareness. Its odd how the both subjects symbolize an entity of denying the reality of their existence, versus what they mean or what we want them to mean to us the moment we look at them. Is human self image and what we consume on a daily basis an extreme departure in itself? How often do we look at a cow and say, I want a burger? Versus looking at the model and say I want her wool sweater, but rather just want to look like her if we wore that ugly sweater.
We eat and wear chickens, cows, sheep and sometimes alpakas. We simply become what we Consume and Devour. |
